The end of the semester always means grading, whether in Tacoma or in Mexico. But in most cities and towns in Mexico, a panadería (bakery) awaits a block or two away. This is a modest display compared to what is available in Oaxaca City every morning and evening. But it still is a luxury. Click on the images for names and a few details.
(Below, center) Conchas (Shells). A classic for breakfast or supper, and especially delicious if carefully dipped in hot chocolate or café con leche.
This isn’t as colorful a display as some panaderías have, but the sprinkles on this Rebanada (Slice) are a treat to the sight.
(Left) Ojo de Buey (Ox Eye) or Nido (Nest). This has always been my favorite: pound cake enveloped in puff pastry.
